Innovative solutions for advanced dielectrics and substrates, imaging systems and surface protections

Headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, since 2002, Electronics Materials (EM) is an integral part of Atotech's technology strategy focused on providing leading edge solutions in the fields of advanced dielectrics and substrates, imaging systems and surface protections. Core materials and technologies are developed in the Basel R&D center utilizing skills, resources and core competencies available in the global centre of polymers excellence. Product optimization and the development of efficient process know-how is performed in the EM TechCenter located in Guanyin (Taiwan). Here products are married with processes to ensure customers receive final technologies that are optimized for performance, reliability and cost of ownership. Product fields addressed are complementary to Atotech's plating and process chemistries and serve to create a comprehensive portfolio of materials and technologies aimed at satisfying the needs of advanced interconnect manufacturing. Included are dielectrics for HDI and packaging applications, high resolution imaging systems for multilayer production, soldermasks for high reliability applications along with a wide variety of specialty lacquers and pastes employed in PCBs.

• Advanced Substrates: Especially RCF (RCC) and reinforced RCF (RRCC) - products of Atotech Electronic Materials exclusive solvent free powder manufacturing technology ADEPT (Advanced Dielectric Epoxy Powder Technology)
• Imaging: Liquid Primary Etch Resist (LPIR) for ML etching, both Lithographic and Laser Direct
• Surface Protection: High reliability Solder masks, Peelable soldermask, Plugging inks, SIT resists

Electronic Materials' Technology and Development

The Electronic Materials R&D in Basel, Switzerland, develops and supports new and advanced materials for printed circuit board (PCB) and IC Substrate manufacturing. The facility is equipped with state of the art technology and tools for developments in advanced imaging and dielectric materials for HDI and Chip packaging.
As a support to optimal product development and most importantly for optimal process development and control, the Technology centres in GuanYin Taiwan and Guangzhou China are established with complete replica processing lines. Products can therefore be tested at mass production scale prior to release and process guidelines and control systems can be developed at industrial scale. The technology centres are open to Atotech customers both for process development and corrective work. They also house Atotech EM Product Specialists who are able to offer first hand support to customers for manufacturing process installation, control or correction.
