The Nichem Family – Perfect Solutions for Multiple Applications
The "Metallic Glass"
The amorphous structure of high phosphorus electroless nickel (EN) coatings, also known as metallic glass, is responsible for some unique properties: Neither grain boundaries, crystallites nor other surface defects are visible under a standard optical microscope. The absence of a well-defined crystalline structure reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion, thus providing a more effective barrier to corrosive attacks.
Atotech’s Nichem family extends across the full range of low, medium and high phosphorus deposits, producing high quality nickel-phosphorus alloy coatings containing 2 - 14% phosphorus by weight. For exceptional corrosion resistance we recommend our high phosphorus and for very high hardness our low phosphorus Nichem processes.
