For Pb-free hard chrome plating
In order to remove toxic lead from the hard chrome plating process we developed our HEEF® T range of processes utilizing Atotech’s TCC (Trivalent Chromium Control) technology.
HEEF® T enables platers to work completely lead-free by utilizing platinized titanium anodes. It uses Trivalent Chromium Control (TCC) technology to help control the level of trivalent chromium.
TCC improves the re-oxidation of trivalent chromium to hexavalent chromium for Pt/Ti anodes so removing the last technical barrier preventing the replacement of lead anodes with Pt/Ti anodes.

Why we developed HEEF® T
The interest in sustainable coatings is growing due to regulations as well as increased environmental, health and safety awareness. To eliminate lead from hard chrome plating Pt/Ti anodes have to be used in the most efficient way.
HEEF® T enables platers to work completely lead-free by utilizing platinized titanium anodes. Using our TCC (Trivalent Chromium Control) technology it is possible to increase the oxygen overpotential on Pt/Ti anodes enabling efficient trivalent to hexavalent re-oxidation, so controlling the trivalent content in the plating bath at low levels.

is the most commonly used member of our hard chrome systems. It has been successfully implemented for every application that calls for a functional chrome deposit. These include but are not limited to automobile parts such as shock absorbers and strut rods, engine valves, piston rings, brake pistons and cylinder liners, and others like hydraulic rods, agricultural equipment, mining, oil and gas components and rollers of all types including rotogravure.
was developed especially for the plating of cast iron piston rings, but has now found a large use for diesel, auto and locomotive cylinders as well. HEEF® PR has all of the same benefits as our HEEF® 25 but this process also has the attribute of a very low chemical etch rate on exposed cast iron. Meaning that the inside no longer needs to be protected from chemical attack using a lacquer or similar technique.
is able to plate at much higher current densities than was previously possible. Commercially it is being used at over 200 A/dm² (13 ASI) in applications where the part geometry and current carrying capabilities are appropriate, giving higher outputs from a plating line.
