Berlin, Oktober 2017: Atotech is pleased to be given the TL 194 approval by Audi for both acid and alkaline zinc.

Atotech’s OEM team received the official confirmation by the Audi AG that their alkaline corrosion resistant coating processes “Unizinc® NCZ 420 + EcoTri® HC2 + Sealer 300 W” and “Unizinc® NCZ 420 + EcoTri® HC2 + Sealer 300 WL7” have been approved for use by the Ingolstadt-based automotive manufacturer. Both processes offer high corrosion protection (720 h) for connecting components in contact with magnesium – as requested by Audi.

Peter Lawin, Global OEM & Key Account Manager at Atotech, states: “We are very proud to receive the extended approval by Audi. Magnesium will come to play an increasing role in the development of automobiles of tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.” Peter Lawin continues, “Since it is even remarkably lighter than aluminum, magnesium further contributes to lighter body works leading to lower fuel consumption.”

Process flow for BondFilm® LDD MSAP + LDD MSAP Enhancer

Berlin, 6 July, 2017: Atotech introduces BondFilm^® LDD and BondFilm^® LDD Enhancer, its latest additions to the BondFilm^® product family, the worlds most successful, reliable and omnipresent oxide replacement process for inner layer bonding and LDD pretreatment.

“By being perceptive, foreseeing trends and carefully listening to the needs of our customers, we were able to react to the ever changing market needs and develop this innovative, yet simple low-temperature pretreatment process perfectly in time with the current industry trend to switch to mSAP technology,” states Stephan Hotz, Global Product Manager Surface Treatment Technology at Atotech Deutschland GmbH. “BondFilm^® LDD MSAP perfectly prepares the surface for Laser Direct Drilling at a very low etch depth of only 0.5 µm and is tailor-made for thin material handling such as copper foils used for mSAP build ups. Suitable for use with BondFilm^® Horizon process equipment, it offers a complete system solution.”

Together with the non-etching post-treatment BondFilm^® LDD MSAP Enhancer, which prepares the surface for subsequent process steps, it is the perfect combination to optimize the operation of mass production CO2 lasers in an environment for mSAP applications.

The process can further lever its benefits when applied in Atotech’s Horizon BondFilm^® Line. “Atotech’s Horizon BondFilm^® can deliver the features it takes to bring up yield while optimizing laser drilling operations,” states Andreas Schatz, Global Product Manager Equipment Electronics at Atotech Deutschland GmbH. „Superior performance at lowest etch depth and excellent uniformity can be achieved with the process control, traceability and particle filtration features the Horizon BondFilm^® line offers.”

BondFilm^® solutions for LDD pretreatment have been on the market for several years now. Changing market needs, however, have led to a need to significantly reduce the etch depth of the LDD pretreatment process and to introduce a non-etching post-dip which removes all organic residues from the surface.

Atotech’s new BondFilm^® LDD and BondFilm^® LDD Enhancer meet these new requirements. The process offers uniform roughness and surface characteristics for improved efficiency of laser absorption and reaches a target etch depth of 0.5 µm, while the enhancer does not etch the treated surface at all.

Berlin, June 2017: Atotech is pleased to introduce Nichem^® MP 1188, a fully bright, ELV, RoHS and WEEE compliant mid phosphorus electroless nickel process capable of standing up to the highest production demands, but also with the flexibility required to accommodate a range of surface areas and multiple substrates – all in one process.

The modern demands of an electroless nickel plating operation are high, and the applications range from high production volume automotive to lower volume job shops. Mid phosphorus coatings not only need to offer good corrosion protection. They also need to be bright and provide low tensile stress, long bath life and be tolerant to contamination. To fulfill all the requirements typically meant choosing an electroless nickel process specifically suited to a particular application – with Nichem^® MP 1188 not anymore.

Nichem^® MP 1188 with its excellent bath stability and corrosion protection is formulated to be very tolerant to extremely low bath loading. The new process has shown outstanding self-initiation ability on copper and its alloys making it a versatile process for handling a wide variety of substrates. Production shows that the process has a high tolerance to zinc contamination, thus making direct plating on to zincated aluminum alloys throughout bath life possible without sacrificing brightness and adhesion.

“Nichem^® MP 1188 is a truly environmentally friendly process as it’s free of lead and cadmium”, states Shakeel Akhtar, Global Product Manager for electroless nickel at Atotech. “This makes our latest electroless nickel process a perfect complement in Atotech’s portfolio of sustainable plating solutions.”

Nichem^® MP 1188 offers nickel-phosphorus coatings with a 5 – 8% phosphorus content resulting in “as plated” hardness in the range 550 – 560 HV0.1. The versatile and stable process has a wide operation window and provides consistent brightness over the whole bath life. Nichem^® MP 1188 is suitable for a wide variety of applications in various industries such as agriculture, automotive, consumer electronics, connectors, oil and gas and even wind energy.
