Deflash GR 1
Designed to remove mold flash from outer leads
Atotech presents Deflash GR 1, designed to remove mold flash from the outer leads of IC packages.
Deflash GR 1 is a highly-efficient deflashing process which can be applied at a lower temperature (70 °C) and at shorter exposure times (e.g., 10 min.) to remove thick flash layers. It is halide, DMF and NMP-free and thus more eco-friendly.
Our NMP-free deflash process provides no flashpoint since it contains a significant proportion of water. During heating, a considerable amount of water vapor accumulates above the sample, causing the flame to extinguish. Deflash GR 1 is suitable for application on copper, copper alloy, alloy 42 and Ni/Pd/Au-plated lead frame.
As Deflash tank material stainless steel shall be used. An exhaust system is required. The deflashing process is promoted by mild agitation, so filtration is not required. The final step – physical removal – is completed using a high-pressure water jet.
What inspires us
Why we developed Deflash GR 1
Your challenge
The use of flammable chemicals at very high temperatures in production poses significant safety risks: Besides the high power consumption, the permanent heating of the chemical deflash is problematic. In addition, conventional chemical deflash processes consist of a variety of toxic substances.
Our solution
Our Deflash GR 1 can be used at a lower temperature and remains very effective through its short exposure time. It provides no flash point. It does not contain NMP, halides or DMF, and represents a more eco-friendly alternative to conventional processes.
