Fumetrol® 21 LF 2
Non-PFOS, Non-PFC, mist suppressant
Fumetrol® 21 LF 2 is our proven, robust and effective permanent type, low foaming non-PFOS mist suppressant for chrome plating applications. Its ease of operation, high stability and simple conversion of old suppressant systems makes it the ideal choice for reducing mist and complying with the latest PFOS directives.
The mist formed during functional or decorative chrome plating is very fine and voluminous and as it contains toxic Cr6+ can create a health hazard for people as well as contaminating equipment in the vicinity of the plating tank.
After several years of development Atotech was the first to release a low foaming, non-PFOS mist suppressant for the chrome plating market.This was Fumetrol® 21 LF which fully complies with non-PFOS legislation and directives. Fumetrol® 21 LF 2 has a wider working window, is only a single product and has superior low-foaming action.

Your challenge
During functional and decorative chrome plating a considerable amount of gas bubbles are generated at the anodes and cathodes which then burst on the surface of the solution creating a Cr6+ containing mist. The mist formed can create a health hazard for people as well as contaminating equipment in the vicinity of the plating tank.
Our solution
Studies have shown that by reducing the surface tension of a chrome plating solution to below 40 mN/m emissions of Cr6+ due to mist can be significantly reduced.
Our Fumetrol® 21 LF 2 dramatically lowers the surface tension reducing mist. Combined with a thin foam layer that forms around the cathodes and anodes that act as a physical barrier to further reduce mist and so Cr6+ emissions.
